Context
In recent years, the next generation of farmers has shown an increasing interest in fruit production. Following a trend focused on vegetables, fruit has now begun to gain traction in the province. Research conducted by CISA since 2017 on the establishment journey of aspiring male and female farmers has revealed that fruit businesses face distinct challenges. This observation is also supported by the educators at INAB. The primary challenges can be categorized into three main issues: first, financial viability during the initial years of operation; second, access to and availability of labor; and third, marketing.
Project Objective
The objective of this project, in collaboration with Centre d'expertise et de transfert en agriculture biologique et de proximité (CETAB+), is to consolidate and acquire new knowledge about the challenges faced by young fruit producers in Quebec. This knowledge will serve as a foundation for supporting partners in co-constructing social innovations that address the prioritized issues.
