Context
The provincial government’s strategy for the procurement of Québec food (Stratégie nationale d’achat d’aliments québécois - SNAAQ) calls on every institution to set its own targets for sourcing local food. The Agricultural Zone Development Plan (PDZA) of the Antoine-Labelle RCM reflects a strong desire to improve food security and food autonomy by creating new opportunities for agri-food sector development. Across the RCM, many stakeholders are already working to increase the share of local foods in institutional menus. This project aims to contribute to that movement by supporting the development of creative solutions so that public, private, and non-profit institutions (such as early childhood centres) can set targets—if they haven’t already—while helping them reach and even surpass those goals.
Project objective
To increase the share of local food in public and private institutions in the Antoine-Labelle RCM, the following steps will be taken: 1) Conduct an inventory of public and private institutions with food services and assess their demand; 2) Distribute an interest survey to producers, processors, and distributors in the Antoine-Labelle RCM regarding the institutional market; 3) Create a guide to regional (Laurentides) and provincial brands by product category, inspired by the guide developed for Centre-du-Québec; 4) Identify key challenges and opportunities related to institutional procurement of local products in the RCM; 5) Organize an event to foster networking and stronger connections across institutional supply chain actors; 6) Co-develop a coordinated regional strategy that engages stakeholders around structuring long-term actions.
