Context
In recent years, the organic dairy sector has been facing a situation of overproduction. As a result, organic dairy producers are looking for new markets and opportunities. They hope to build on the growing momentum around Québec-sourced products—particularly the boost created by the strategy for the procurement of Québec food (Stratégie nationale d’achat d’aliments québécois - SNAAQ). This project follows on the work of the Plus d’ici dans nos cafétérias project, carried out between 2021 and 2024 in the Arthabaska RCM, Centre-du-Québec region. That initiative successfully enhanced the visibility of regional food offerings in select public institutions and private organizations across the region.
Project Objective
Using a co-construction approach, this project aims to: 1) mobilize stakeholders involved in Québec’s institutional food supply chain (producers, processors, distributors, and institutions); 2) identify and implement sector-wide strategic actions; and 3) significantly increase the share of Québec organic dairy products in the institutional food market.
More specifically, the project will help to pinpoint the key challenges and opportunities related to institutional procurement of organic dairy products, identify and activate the most relevant strategic levers, and develop an awareness-building tool for institutional food service providers.
